“Witness of Whiteness” is an invitation to the silent places where horizons merge into shades of white and where the white defines the horizon event. As a photographer, I am fascinated by witnessing the fleeting moments when nature, under specific circumstances and on her own terms, creates simple and clean compositions in which I find emotions that are both fundamental and universal. Capturing such visually reduced vistas creates a moment of respite in an otherwise complicated and complex network of reality. The paradox of the certainty that less is more, that the minimal hint of a landscape becomes larger in our minds as a result of our own perception, allow us an opportunity to stand still and accept „the white space“ as a mirror to our own inner space. The snow, the sky, the fog or waters frozen by time can evoke a dialogue, a poem or a piece of music.
I made this book with care and love as a photographer as well as an illustrator and a graphic designer to represent the work dearest to my heart in both fields. The book contains 41 photographs taken between 2020-2023. They are arranged in two sections to show two different natural habitats, yet they are analogous by means of expression, all set in a minimalist black and white finish. The scenes covered with snow are from my home surroundings, while the water scapes were captured during my travels. The touch of delicate illustrations on a few translucent pages serves as a graphical shorthand for the principal behind the book.
